Generally, a circular tubular handrail fitted with our standard wall brackets designed to follow the line or angle of your corridor or stair and supplied in a range of easily manageable sections. ZuRail is manufactured from either mild or stainless steel tube and available in various finishes. The product is supplied with all necessary in line and 90° corner connectors, and it can also be manufactured as a flat steel core rail to accommodate a hardwood handrail or simply as a hardwood handrail of your choice machined for and fitted with individual wall brackets.

What is a wall mounted handrail system?

A stainless steel glass balustrade system is a modular guardrail comprising tubular stainless steel posts and toughened glass infill panels, used to provide a safe barrier on staircases, balconies, mezzanines, and terraces. ZuGlass uses 48.3mm circular satin polished posts and 10mm clear toughened glass panels, and is engineered to comply with BS 6180 for both domestic and commercial applications.

What is the difference between a tubular steel handrail and a flat core rail?

A tubular steel handrail is a circular hollow section tube fixed to the wall on brackets, providing a continuous metal gripping surface. A flat core rail is a flat steel section fixed to the wall brackets in the same way, but designed to carry a hardwood or vinyl cap on top, giving a warmer or more finished appearance. Both configurations use the same wall bracket fixing method and are available in the ZuRail range.

Can ZuRail be used on a staircase?

Yes. ZuRail wall brackets are designed to follow the angle of any stair flight, so the handrail runs continuously at the correct height above the pitch line as required by Approved Document K. Sections are supplied in manageable lengths and joined with internal inline connectors for flush joints. Scroll ends and end caps are available to terminate the rail cleanly at the top and bottom of the flight.

What materials are available for ZuRail?

ZuRail is available in mild steel and stainless steel tube. Mild steel is standard for internal applications and is typically powder coated in a colour of your choice. Stainless steel is specified for high-contact, high-traffic, or external applications where a brushed or satin finish is required. Hardwood handrail options are also available, either as capping on a flat steel core rail or as a standalone machined hardwood rail fitted with individual brackets.

The system is UKCA/CE marked, Constructionline and CHAS accredited, and available in stainless steel for high-traffic and high-contact commercial environments. Three Handrail Configurations to Suit Any Application

ZuRail is not a single product. It is a system with three distinct configurations, each suited to a different project requirement.

Tubular steel handrail: The standard configuration. A 42.4mm circular tube in mild or stainless steel, fitted with wall brackets designed to follow the line or angle of your corridor or stair. Supplied in easily manageable sections with inline connectors for flush joints and 90-degree corner connectors for direction changes. End caps and scroll ends are available separately for a finished installation at both termination points.

Flat steel core rail with hardwood or vinyl capping: Where a tubular metal finish is not appropriate, ZuRail can be supplied as a flat steel core rail designed to accept a hardwood handrail or vinyl capping. The core rail provides the structural fixing to the wall brackets while the capping delivers the tactile and visual finish required. This configuration is popular in residential developments, care settings, and commercial interiors where a warmer finish is specified.

Standalone hardwood handrail: ZuRail is also available as a standalone hardwood handrail of your choice, machined to accept and fitted with individual wall brackets. No metal core rail is required. This option suits projects where timber is the primary finish material and a fully integrated hardwood handrail run is required from the outset.

Steel or Stainless: Choosing the Right Material

ZuRail tubular handrail sections are available in mild steel and stainless steel. Mild steel is the standard choice for internal staircases, corridors, and escape routes, and is typically supplied in a powder coated finish in the colour of your choice. Stainless steel is specified where a brushed or satin polished finish is required, or where the installation is in a high-traffic, high-contact environment that demands a more durable surface finish.

For outdoor or external handrail installations, specify stainless steel. For coastal locations, contact us before ordering to confirm the most appropriate grade and finish for your exposure level.
